The Birth of The Wildflower Way: Finding Growth After Loss
Life is interesting. The days go by, then the weeks, the months, and suddenly the years begin to fly. One day you wake up and ask, “How did I get here? Is this my life? Am I living as my true self, or did I get caught up in the roller coaster of life?”
Like many of you, I followed the expectations of my family and community, becoming a version of myself that fit in rather than reflected who I truly was.
Realizing Something Needed to Change
My parents passed away 28 years ago, yet I still carried this silent quest to please them. Many of my choices were guided by what I thought they would have wanted. My life wasn’t terrible; it was full of wonderful people and experiences, but something inside me was out of alignment.
It took years to understand that inner whisper: this isn’t the life I’m meant to live.
Beginning My Healing Journey
Everything began to shift in 2020 when I met Becky Sherwood, an incredibly gifted healer (you can find her at beckysbacktobasics.ca). Working with Becky marked the start of my healing and personal growth journey.
At the time, I was a teacher, a career that felt safe and familiar. I had worked my way up to become the principal of the very school I had attended as a child. Yet, despite my achievements, something within me felt misaligned. My stress was affecting my health, and deep down I knew I needed change.
Letting Go and Listening Inward
Leaving education after 19 years wasn’t easy. It meant walking away from stability to honour my own well-being. But I knew that to help others, I had to help myself first.
I began exploring ways to create something that allowed me to share my story and help others heal in a way that felt fulfilling rather than draining.
Discovering Breath Work and Transformation
In 2021, I attended a festival with my daughter Kelsey and met Mandy Trapp, where I experienced my first conscious connected breath work session. It was mind-blowing.
Breath work helped me access layers of grief and healing I didn’t even know were there. After following Mandy’s work (mandytrapp.com), I deepened my meditation practice and eventually became a certified breathwork and meditation teacher.
Through that training, I gained tools to help others connect to themselves and witnessed the power of community healing, something I now aim to cultivate through The Wildflower Way.
Finding Meaning Through Grief
Grief has been one of my greatest teachers. I felt a deep need to find meaning in my loss, to use my experience to support others on their grief journeys. Inspired by the work of David Kessler, I completed his Grief Educator Training Program, alongside my Coach Training Alliance certification to tie it all together.
My goal is to normalize talking about grief, to educate others that grief isn’t just about death, and to hold space for those navigating change, loss, and transformation.
The Heart of The Wildflower Way
Wildflowers have always felt like teachers to me. They don’t wait for perfect soil or gentle weather. They simply bloom where they are, finding light in the cracks and life even after the storm.
That resilience is the heart of The Wildflower Way. My work is about helping others reconnect with their inner strength, honour their stories, and heal through self-compassion. It’s about growing through what you’ve been through, not despite it.
We can’t always choose our circumstances, but we can choose how we root and rise within them. Like wildflowers, we can always find light again.
